First Nations athletes face unique challenges that can prevent their talent from being recognized. Barriers such as living in remote communities, limited access to resources, systemic racism, and intergenerational trauma mean that young athletes often miss out on crucial opportunities to develop and showcase their skills. At the same time, maintaining and sharing cultural traditions plays a pivotal role in their holistic development—strengthening mental, emotional, and spiritual health alongside physical growth.
Our non-profit aims to change that.
In 2025, a select group of First Nations hockey players, their coaches, chaperones, and support team will travel to Czechia to compete in exhibition games, learn from international athletes, and participate in cultural exchange. These young athletes will not only display their sports talent, but they’ll also share the richness of First Nations culture—through traditional drumming, singing, dance, and language. They’ll represent Canada and their First Nations heritage with pride, and in doing so, inspire future generations of First Nations youth.

Your contribution can be part of a powerful story of reconciliation, youth empowerment, and cultural exchange. By sponsoring this initiative, you will help young athletes in several important ways.
Exposure to diverse cultures and environments helps young athletes build leadership skills that they can bring back to their communities.
Participation in sports, combined with cultural exchange, is a proven pathway to strengthening resilience, improving mental health, and reducing the risks of substance abuse among First Nations youth.
Through mandatory cultural training in drumming, singing, and language, these young athletes will be ambassadors of their First Nations heritage, proudly sharing it with communities abroad and building bridges of understanding.
This initiative directly supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action on youth and sports (#89), Health (#19), and Business Reconciliation (#92).
Our mission is to empower Indigenous youth through the spirit and discipline of culture and sports, providing opportunities for personal development, education, and community connection. First Nations Voyageurs Canada is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment where young athletes can grow in skill and confidence, celebrate their cultural heritage, and become ambassadors of their culture and sport on the global stage. We are committed to breaking down barriers to sports and cultural participation and promoting inclusivity, health, and well-being among Indigenous communities through the love of hockey and connection with culture, both at home and internationally.
We are Indigenous-led and draw on a team of Indigenous and settler professionals who are all committed to reconciliation.
